Obituary for Michel Leroux

Michel Leroux
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Michel Leroux (aka Johnny Coconut) on May 15th following a courageous battle against ALS. He is predeceased by his parents Roseline (née Alie) and Robert Leroux from Smooth Rock Falls. He is survived by his wife Josée (Bélanger), his children Dominique Desrochers (Cory) and Sébastien as well as his precious granddaughters Abrielle and Corallie and future grandson, whom he loved with all his heart. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Laura Bélanger (Gabriel, predeceased), his sisters Jacynthe (Yves Deschamps) and Francine Leroux (Marcel Proulx), his sisters-in-law France Bélanger-Houle (Daniel Houle, predeceased, John Radey), Lynne Bélanger and Louise Leroux (Luc). He will be missed by his nephews, nieces, friends and family.

Michel was dedicated to family, community, his mother tongue and education. He was a devoted teacher at École secondaire catholique Champlain as well as coach of many sports teams. He was especially proud of his hockey teams and their participation in the annual franco-ontarien high school hockey tournament. He touched hundreds of students with his sense of humour and dedication to their academic success. He was also known for his participation in the organization of numerous sports and community events. Michel was an avid athlete having spent many hours at the rink or on the golf course. He was a dedicated fan of the Montréal Canadians and designed a special room in his house in their honour. He can now rest in peace knowing that his beloved Habs are in the playoffs.

The family would like to thank the staff of Home Instead, Dustin, Dominique and the team from Bayshore, Dr. Mongeon and his dedicated team of personal support workers, Lucie, Cindy, Joan, Jenniffer, Mandy and Diane. Special thanks to Dr. Walton and the team at Maison McCulloch Hospice. The family appreciates the care provided by all these special individuals.

In Michel’s memory, donations can be made to the Maison McCulloch Hospice.

In light of the current pandemic, a private funeral will be held for the immediate family.
