The family announces with great sorrow his passing in Sudbury, Saturday, November 5th, 2022, at the age of 87 years. Bill was a kind and loving soul, whose dedication and support of his family was his first priority, every day of his life.



Beloved husband of 52 years to the late Jacqueline McIlmoyle (nee Theobald), and of 12 years to the late Lenore McIlmoyle (nee Sheahan/Fraser). Cherished father of William “Bill” Jr, Robert “Bob”, and the late Susan Laporte. Beloved father-in-law to the son he called his own, Gilles Laporte. Dear brother of Barrie (Margaret) both predeceased, George (Gayle) both predeceased, Karen Opperman predeceased (Doug), and Beverley Bovair predeceased (Bill). Sadly missed by his granddaughters, Melissa (Kurtis), Michelle (Jason), Marianne (David) and Kimberley (Steve), as well as his great-grandchildren Will, Jack, Chloe and Molly. Forever remembered by his nieces and nephews. Bill was so pleased when his family grew in 2009, with his marriage to Lenore. He was a loving step-father to Dan Fraser (Michelle), Nancy McLeod (Rod) and Kerri Kightley (Joel). Loving Grandpa to their children, Evan, Isaiah, Colin, Solly and Sam.



He was a devoted family man and who took the greatest pride in his entire family. Whether it was a holiday, birthday, competition or hockey game - Bill was always there! He was the family cheerleader, attending countless events for his children, grandchildren, and most recently his great grandchildren.



Over the years, he served on many police forces throughout Ontario, retiring from the Greater Sudbury Police force in 1994, holding the rank of Inspector. Bill was a police officer to his core and was respected by all who worked with him. He spoke very highly of his career and was so proud to have been able to help people. Up until his last moments he was sharing police stories with his family and the nurses caring for him.



Bill cherished the log cabin that he built with his family on Manitoulin Island. He was a seasonal resident of Gore Bay, spending half the year there. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Bill was known to buy “a fishing rod or two” at yard sales. He loved his antiques and collecting “treasures”.



He was one of the best! He will be so deeply missed, but we are so fortunate to have shared so many wonderful memories with him.



The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, Friday, November 11th, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A prayer will be said at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 76 and are greatly appreciated.
