Obituary for Simone Chevrier

Simone Chevrier
On the morning of January 30th Simone passed away unexpectedly and peacefully while saying her daily rosary. As a devout Catholic she derived great strength throughout her life from her faith. She was 85 years old. Daughter of the late Arthur and late Bernadette (née Dumont) Girard, Simone was born in Cartier. She was the eldest child and dear sister of Jackie, Ronnie (Carmen) and Pauline and was predeceased by her sisters Diane, Shirley (late Clark), Claire (late Fred). Simone is the beloved wife of André having married at St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Parish in Sudbury sixty-five years ago. Simone and André lived most of their married life in homes they built together. They eventually moved into their dream home on Windy Lake, having camped at the Windy Lake Provincial Park for entire summers while raising their family. Simone poured her heart and soul into being a mother and was immensely proud of each of her children, Joanne (Pat), Lise (Rick), André Jr. (better known as Chum) always putting their needs ahead of her own. A truly cherished grandmother, Simone loved nothing more than to dote on, sing, knit and cook for her four grandchildren, affectionately known as Minou Gris (Tristen), Minou Noir (Michelle), Minou Jaune (John) and Minou Brun (Britney). In her early days Simone loved to entertain and could easily host fifty guests for family occasions. Best known for her endless assortment of homemade pies and great abundance of food, no one ever left Simone’s home hungry despite many humorous turkey mishaps. As the eldest aunt she often brought together her nieces and nephews and strived to stay connected. Simone was a strong, courageous, and proud women who took on many challenges in her life in service to others. She first learned to drive to assist the elderly in Onaping and would later learn to use modern technology to connect with her children and grandchildren. Throughout the years she shared her beautiful voice as a church choir member and sang with the Northern Echoes and Les Troubadours. Those around her received great joy hearing her sing, especially her grandchildren who associate so many songs with her, a favorite being You Are My Sunshine. A special thank you to the many relatives and friends who made Simone’s life better is so many ways, especially Dr. Robert Merotto and Tim McCue for their many years of care and support. As per her wishes, a funeral mass will take place February 4th, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the St-Jean-de-Brébeuf Church, Sudbury. Donations by cheque or online to the Diabetes Canada or the Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
