I knew Diane from childhood, having been/am still best friends with her younger brother, Donald. She was always like a loving aunt or older sister to me, encouraging me to continue speaking French, even when I was not at school and frequently quizzing me on my general knowledge. Later, during High School, at Franco Jeunesse, she taught me Physics, a course I would likely have had great difficulty passing, without her kind patience and attention to my needs/challenges. En septembre 1982, elle a commenc un club parascolaire pour jouer un jeu de socit nomm Donjons et dragons. Je suis devenu un membre et en ce, j'ai pass des douzaines d'heures m'imaginer comme un aventurier mdival, tout sous la sage supervision de Mlle Gervais. Pendant ces annes, j'ai eu le bonheur de faire la connaissance de trois autres membres de ce fameux club, personnes avec lesquelles que je me tiens encore, ce jour. I made three, lifelong friends in that club, and for this, and many other things, I will treasure her memory, her jovial smile, her generosity, wisdom, and patience with me. En fait, je ne serai pas l'enseignant que je suis aujourd'hui sans avoir connu Diane Gervais.
