Condolence From: Christie McQuarrie
Condolence: I was saddened to hear of Chris' passing. We had last talked pre-COVID at the ACLCO AGM in May 2019 and she was so forthright about her wish to continue to work despite her illness so that she could continue to help her clients whom she cared for so much.
Since I work at the other legal clinic in Scarborough and since we have similar first names, often Chris' clients would inadvertently come to West Scarborough Community Legal Clinics looking for her and be somewhat confused because reception staff would say "yes there is a Chris working here but you don't live in our geographic catchment area". And then of course we would call Chris and she would confirm the person was her client and to tell them come over right now.
Chris was such a fountain of knowledge about social assistance and was still sharing her thoughts on the clinic system email list serves as long as she could. We will all miss Chris and her dedication and passion.

Condolence: I knew Chris as a clinic system coworker - one who spoke her mind and called everyone around her to do better for those that needed help. I loved that about her - even when I needed to hear something straight-up, her sense of concern for people and mission in making the world a better place was always foremost. You are absolutely right in asking people to honour her by doing something for someone in need.

My deepest sympathies to her family. She spoke of you at work events and there was an immense sense of pride and her love that came through. Our thoughts are with you.

I also want to acknowledge those she was close to in her clinic. She cared deeply about so many of you - and I always had the sense that it was about you personally, not just as a coworker. I'm sure her loss will be felt deeply.

Condolence: Sending my prayers to Chris's family. I first met Chris as a strong advocate for persons with disabilities and work we did in the early years of the ODSP Action Coalition. In 2008, when Community Legal Workers (CLW's) were given the opportunity to study and write the Paralegal exam - several CLW's formed a study group to work through the exam questions. Chris challenged us to critique the ethical questions and bring a lived experience response to our studies. Chris' dedication and passion will be greatly missed in our clinic system. Rest In Peace Chris and know that we continue your fight!

Condolence: Although I knew she was ill, I was still staggered to learn today that Chris had passed away. I did not work with Chris directly, but I knew her when she worked at Scarborough Legal Services and we shared a number of e-mails even after she left Toronto. I can say without hesitation that the legal clinic system and low income Ontarians have lost a great one. She was as committed to the betterment of her clients and everyday Ontario residents as anyone I have ever met. Aside from the work that she did, Chris was a joy to be around and the e-mails we exchanged always made me laugh. Her wit was as sharp as it comes. My condolences to her family.

Condolence: My thoughts and prayers go to her and her family. Chris and I made a great team helping our people in need. She would call me or I would call her on a regular basis for years and between us - we did what we could. I received the saddest call when she called to say good-bye. Chris was an angel and I will miss her greatly.

Condolence: I'm saddened to see Chris passed away. I got to know her while she helped me with a legal issue and of course with her experience, care and drive we won my case. I was grateful with all she did for me and gave her a thank you card that she loved. She had a great smile and was always happy ♥ I was looking on this website and saw her posted, it's so sad. My condolences to the family, she will be missed by many.
