Tribute to Violette

Mom was a progressive women way ahead of her time. She was a wife, mother, servant of god, and an entrepreneur. Many friends from the Mattagami First Nation will remember her as the source of their transportation needs. Every kid in Gogama will remember going to high school in Timmins riding on one of mom's school bus. Each kid from Morin Village will also remember her as the person who took them to school safely each day. Many residents of Gogama will remember her as the source of the entertainment renting many movies from her Video Rental Shop. Many parish members of St. Marguerite D'Youville will remember her as an active parish member who gave communion, and who drove to the sick and elderly offering them communion at home. One of the saddest days of my life was learning that my mother had Alzheimer knowing that this terrible disease would consume her mind and erase all things that she cherished. Despite this, mom continued to be loving, witty, and dangerously funny. It is no surprise to her family when we learned that mom had called 9-1-1 from the nursing home claiming that she had been kidnapped. Or the time she pulled the fire alarm panel when the staff was on lunch break urging all other resident to evacuate. Mom was an awesome grandmother. Her grand children all have so many stories of their love and admiration. She was so warm and caring, and spoiled each and everyone relentlessly. Mom was the anchor and the family glue. We always gathered at her house for every opportunity and mom gladly prepared a grand feast. Everyone always got their favorite meal on their birthday. I wish to thank my loving siblings Louise Turcotte and Christine Elizabeth Laino for the love and care that they provided to my mother during her many years struggling with her this disease. A special thank you to the Elizabeth Center in Val Caron for the care and support. You guys are amazing, and the tribute following her death was purely breath taking. Watching all the staff line the hallways as mom was escorted out covered in an embossed purple blanket with butterflies was so beautiful. Dear mother, you will be sadly missed but never forgotten. We know that you and dad are happily reunited. Love always Philippe!
