My family has a very vivid memory of a weekend with Thérèse and Jean-Marc at their wonderful cottage at the lake. We were with Claude and Karen; Richard was there too. It was a mythic Canadian weekend: bonfires, Claude’s guitar, wood-fired saunas and jumps in the lake, Thérèse’s famous blueberry cake. Thérèse combined warmth and intelligence to raise her large family of rowdy, fun-loving boys. Her stern French Canadian beauty was the stuff of novels: Gabrielle Roy, Margaret Atwood.
