Obituary for Roger Savoie

Roger Savoie
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Roger Savoie, on November 1st, 2022, at age 96. Roger was born on October 2nd, 1926, in Lameque, New Brunswick, to Henri and Julie (Noel) Savoie. Roger married the love of his life Alexandra (Blanchard) on June 30th, 1952. Together, they raised nine children - Dianne, (late Norm), Lise (Etienne), Robert, Raymonde, Jeannine (Lloyd), Ronald (Kristin), Fernand, Claudette (Luc), and Annie (Mike). He was the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Alexandra, his beautiful granddaughter Jennifer, and his second wife, Gisele, whom he wed in 1996. Roger was the eldest of 14 children – late Reginald (late Gertrude), late Guy, Francoise (late Fernand), Marc (late Leonida), Lucille (Hedard), Benoit (Lucette), late Marguerite, Betty, Everard (Simone), Marcel (Anne-Marie), late Armand (Yvette), late Richard (late Cecile), and Rosalie (late Henri-Paul). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Roger worked at INCO for 34 years before he retired at age 58. After retirement, he spent many years enjoying ice fishing, gardening and boating. Growing up, he and his father spent many hours on the boat fishing. Roger came from generations of fishermen, and it showed since fishing became one of the greatest passions of his life. He always said that being on the water made him feel years younger. Rogers’ vegetable garden was something he was very proud of. He spent many hours working in his garden until the very end. Although Roger was a quiet man, he was one of the best storytellers. He shared stories about his childhood in New Brunswick, his hardships in life, and everything in between - these stories will be treasured by all. Above all else, he was a generous father, and he loved his family unconditionally. Until we meet again, rest in peace, Dad.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Cooperative Funeral Home, 4570 St-Joseph Street, Hanmer, on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 2-5 and 7-9p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Ste-Marguerite d’Youville Church.
