SAUVÉ, Paul J

The family announces with sorrow the passing of Paul Sauvé on April 2, 2020, beloved husband of Claire Villeneuve (predeceased) and Lillian Thibaudeau. Loving father of Jean Sauvé (Jeanne), Roger Sauvé (Liana), Dan Sauvé (Lucie), Annie Szydziak (Joe), Lyane Sauvé (Rod), all of Sudbury, Alain Sauvé (Lauren) of Manitoulin Island and Marc Sauvé (Jenny) of Montreal. Grandfather of Jordan, Grant, Chase, Isabella, Patrick, Janni, Andrea, Lianne, Zak, Stefany, Joey, Félype, Nick, Yvon, Patrick and Eric, Asha, Alexandre, Ethan, Addison and Everely. Great grandfather to Keegan, Athea, Corbin, Alice, Harrison, Lucas and Sophie. Dear brother of Lise L’Heureux (Yolland) of Gatineau, Pierrette Nadeau (André) and Shirley Salewski (Stan) of Sudbury. Uncle to many nieces and nephews and a loved family member of the Villeneuves. Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Annette (Bisson) Sauvé, brother and sister-in-law Yvon and Lucie Sauvé (McFadden) and grandchildren, Jordin and Corbin.

Paul was a man who felt strongly about family, community, culture, heritage, language and education.

After completing teacher’s college in North Bay, he began his 35-year career as a teacher at the Long Lake school in Sudbury. He often told stories of a time he was the bus driver, principal and teacher. He soon made his way through the ranks and completed his career with the Ministry of Education. He spent countless days on the road visiting communities like Oba, Franz, Missanabie and many more northern communities. Following his retirement, Paul returned as a consultant for one more winter to help re-organise schools in the Wawa district. Paul and wife Claire spent the winter in Wawa and although it was a little challenging at times, they made great friends during their adventure.

His passion for community led him to a life of a volunteerism. Many will remember his countless hours dedicated to the sport of curling. Competitor, draw master, event organiser, NOCA president, CCA executive and more. His years of commitment to the sport earned him a place in the Canadian Curling Hall of fame. The pride of the induction was only surpassed with that of playing in the 2000 Labatt Brier in Saskatoon with two of his sons.

Paul was always happy for the friends he made during his countless committee and association work. Some special friends he made along the way included Chris Sheridan, Norm Mayer, Fin Finley, Claude Mayer.

As a family we were always recruited as volunteers and grew to appreciate the importance of volunteer work and community.

Paul was proud of the work done as President of the Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Aid Society and the creation of the Send a Kid to Camp program.

When not organising something or volunteering Paul enjoyed traveling and was lucky enough to see the world with wife Claire and many traveling Partners like Pierette & Andre and Don & Rachel. Paul spent many winters in Florida with Claire.

After the passing of Claire, Paul met and married Lillian Thibaudeau. They continued the adventure with winters in Florida and regular cruises. The family is very grateful for the companionship and love Lillian provided to Paul during the last segment of his life.

Paul started breaking records for the oldest living male Sauve at the age of 49. He always had a deep appreciation for the medical community. They gave him a long and happy life that he never dreamed possible.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would be happy if support could be provided to our medical community during this difficult time.wwwcooperativefuneralhome.ca
