Obituary for Normand Girard

Normand Girard
GIRARD, Normand

In loving memory of Normand Adrien Girard (September 24, 1946 – March 26, 2021). He died peacefully at the Elizabeth Centre with his daughter Nancy by his side. Cherished husband of nearly 54 years of Cécile (née Castonguay). Wonderful father of Nancy (Sébastien Villeneuve) and Luc. Cherished grandfather of Matéo Normand Villeneuve, who will always remember his grand-papa as incredibly affectionate and doting. First son of Roland & Fernande (née Bélanger) and beloved older brother to Bernie (Susan), Andy and Carole. Norm will be sadly missed by his nieces & nephews and by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws in Ontario and Québec. The family would like to thank Dr. Merotto, Dr. Singh and their staffs. Nancy would especially like to thank Uncle Bern for taking such good care of her dad when she could not be with him. Norm attended Laurentian University graduating with a B.Sc. in mathematics. He joined Falconbridge Nickel Mines in 1968. He started as an underground miner eventually becoming manager of mining services for the company. Norm had many interests from cars to planes. He was especially proud of his own Piper Comanche and flying it on a cross-country trip to Alaska. Norm and Cécile spent their retirement years cruising around the world and spending winters in warmer places such as Mexico, France, New Zealand and Australia. He kept in touch with the many friends they made during their travels. When Cécile was diagnosed with Alzheimer, Norm immediately started to take the Alzheimer support courses so that Cécile could live at home for as long as possible. He was an amazing caregiver to her. Norm was a true Renaissance man who never met a charity he did not like. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Northeast Cancer Centre or to the Alzheimer Society Sudbury. In keeping with Norm’s wishes there will be no visitation or service.
