Obituary for Ethel MacMillan (Timmons)

A day not to be forgotten. With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our MOM on March31, 2021. Ethel was the beloved wife of Lionel Blair, predeceased in September 2002. Mom’s early years were enjoyed with a large family on the shore of Cape Breton N S, near a small community called Dominion. She was the daughter of Joseph, a Cape Breton coal miner and Flora Ann known expressively as Babe and “maw” to many. When Mom left Cape Breton as a young woman she moved to Halifax where she met a handsome sailor, Lionel. They married in 1953 and dad returned to sea on the HMS Haida and Mom eventually moved to Sudbury with Dads parents Alex and Ida. Mom lived a continually active and involved life and was very involved in the Falconbridge Community. She dedicated many years volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society and the CNIB. Ethel served two terms on city council in Ward 2 Nickel Center. She was appointed by the Liberal Government (although she was a devotee to the Progressive Conservative party LOL) to an advisory board that created summer jobs for young Canadians. Mom was also involved with the Canadian Girl Guides. Ethel was an associate member of the Legion while living in Toronto and then currently with Falconbridge Branch 336. Mom was a breast Cancer survivor in 2011 and volunteered for research study for breast cancer micro-seed implant treatment with the Odette Cancer Society. After retirement from the CIBC Mom and Dad spent many winters in Holiday Florida where they made lifelong friends. Not only does Ethel leave behind an extended family that loves her deeply, she leaves behind an endless list of special friends, Sisters-in Law, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many that were fortunate to have Ethel walk into their life and share a laugh, simple words of encouragement, or a dip into her purse. Ethel was the daughter of Joseph and Flora Ann Timmons. (both predeceased) Ethel is survived by her daughter Jo-Anne Glenn (Eldon), Scott (Heather predeceased 2019), Heather Ward (Guy) and Darren (Delia). Gramma Mac will always be remembered by her grandchildren Aaron (predeceased 2002), Cara, Matthew, Alec, Adam (predeceased 2020) Graeme, Kadie (Dustin), Blair, Justus (Kelley), Kristy (Jeff) and Brenna. Loving GREAT Gramma Mac to Jaden, Ireland, Mickenna, Liam, Fynn, Isaac, Ryker and little Lincoln. Ethel is survived by her sisters Theresa, Margaret, Frances, Mary and brothers Charles (Pat) and J.B. She is predeceased by her sisters Betty, Rosalie and brothers Jackie, Reggie, Harvey, Malcolm and Jude. Mom, Gramma, thank you for every laugh, every smile you passed along every day. We will never forget your timeless dance moves and indescribable humour. We will always wish for that one last goodbye, one last hug, one last laugh. But we know that you are where you should be, free of pain and reunited with your heavenly loved ones. XOXOXO Rest peacefully, we love ya Momma! As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Due to Covid restrictions a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
