Obituary for Dorothy Winifred Fortin (Boyer)

Dorothy Winifred Fortin (Boyer)
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Dorothy ‘’Dot’’ Winifred (Boyer) Fortin at Extendicare York in Sudbury, on Friday, August 14, 2020. Dot was a loving mother to daughter Gail (Michael), and to her sons Frank (Jan), James and William (Susan). She is predeceased by her husbands Albert Fortin and Arnold Metcalf, and by her sons Edward, Barry and David. Dot was a loving grandmother to Joseph, Stephanie, Adam, Shaunna, Colleen, Beverlee, Daniel, Bonnie and Evan. She delighted in her numerous great-grandchildren and in her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dot was born in Blind River and lived her early years along the banks of the Mississaugi River. She maintained a close association as an Elder with the Mississaugi First Nation. Dot enjoyed travelling and never passed on an opportunity to dance. Besides being a mother of seven children, she was active as an Avon lady and as a community volunteer. Dot graduated from Cambrian College and became a social worker at Hope Farm on Manitoulin Island. In her retirement years she wrote and published two books about her life. She also helped Arnold write and publish his autobiography. Dorothy was a gifted painter. Her art proudly adorns the homes of her family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare York for their continuous care and concern. It was much appreciated! The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, Thursday, August 20, 2020 from 10 to 12 noon. Funeral service to follow at 12 noon in the Chapel. Due to the current pandemic, restrictions on the amount of people gathering will be managed and enforced. Face masks are mandatory.
